Battle for the Bayou raises funds and awarenessOct 28th, 2013 | By Candace Griffin | Category: News
Last Saturday, the Save Louisiana Coalition (SLC) held its fundraiser and silent auction— the Battle for the Bayou Bash— to help raise awareness about Louisiana’s diminishing coastline and marshlands.
“We had over 300 people in attendance at the Bash,” said SLC President George Ricks. “We had a great turnout despite having to reschedule because of tropical storm Karen and other events that were going on that weekend.”
The SLC said that it raised quite a bit of money from this event and will be using it to continue raising awareness about the possibly devastating affects that large-scale diversions may have on our wetlands.
“We are truly humbled by the amount of support we have gained in such a short period of time and we aren’t stopping now!” said SLC Treasurer, Kerri Callais Lubrano. “We are already putting the funds raised to work— informing and educating the public on the consequences that large scale diversions will have on our communities, and finding alternative plans to save the coast that we all love and rely on. We hope to see everyone again next year!”
