Brock and Gordon honored for athleticismJun 10th, 2013 | By Seth Babin | Category: Community
Two outstanding local athletes, Alexis Gordon and Albert Brock, were honored for their recent Track and Field accomplishments at the St. Bernard Parish Council’s regular meeting Tuesday.
Brock was honored as the boys’ Class 5A Most Outstanding Performer with record-setting victories and times in the two hurdle races as well as a silver medal in the triple jump at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Setting school records while becoming the first Owl to win two events at a state meet, Brock’s performance propelled the Chalmette team coached by David Koontz to its highest state track finish ever; his school record 28 points singlehandedly earned Chalmette High fifth place in the overall team competition.
Gordon, in just her second season in the sport after transferring from Hammond High in October 2011, unleashed a 127 feet, nine inch discus throw to earn her first gold medal. Her 134 foot, nine inch throw from a previous event ranks as the state’s top mark for a girls’ discus thrower, regardless of class. Gordon, who is also a state champion power lifter, plans on taking her talents to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the fall.
This year marked the first time in school history that Chalmette came away from the state meet with three first place events – Brock with two golds and Gordon with one gold.
