Led by 29 points from team captain and Most Valuable Player Ryan Laylle, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office beat parish firefighters 86-79 in their fourth annual charity basketball game at Chalmette High gym Saturday night, July 9, with proceeds to benefit children’s recreation programs. The series is now 2-2. St. Bernard Recreation Corporation and Abba’s Trophies sponsored the game. Proceeds from previous matches have gone to help restore ball fields for children, purchase equipment for them and cover other items for recreation programs in the parish. Both teams are shown after the presentation of the trophy, which is directly in front of Laylle. Fire Chief Thomas Stone is at far right and Dennis Bradley of the Recreation Corporation is behind Laylle.
