Cowboy Sanchez arrestedFeb 7th, 2012 | By admin | Category: News
Jeff Sanchez, the ex-football player who was appointed to the St. Bernard Recreation Department in 2011 as the Recreation Program Manager, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assisting in the theft of more than $100,000 in parish equipment.
Parish Government and Sheriff’s office officials confirmed the arrest early this week, announcing that Sanchez—a former professional football player who played with the Dallas Cowboys and had recently returned to the parish—was under arrest for two counts of theft of more that $500 and two counts for possession of that property. That property included locker room fixtures, washer/dryers, and a $35,000 exhaust-system that belonged to the St. Bernard Fire Department.
Sanchez was honored by the parish last year as one of the most recent inductees into the St. Bernard Sports Hall of Fame. Soon after that award, Sanchez joined the Recreation Department under former Parish President Craig Taffaro’s administration.
Taffaro had also coached Sanchez during his time at Archbishop Hannan High School.
The investigation is ongoing, as other parties are still suspected and further arrests expected in the sting. Details will be reported as they are made available.
