State Representative Ray Garofalo is following up his recent appointment to the Louisiana House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources with another important appointment – the Select Committee on Oversight of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF). Appointed by Speaker of the House Chuck Kleckley, the GCCF Oversight Committee is comprised of members from both the Louisiana House and Senate.

“Though unexpected, I welcome the opportunity to serve on the Committee,” said Garofalo. “I realize there are still many questions and issues that need to be resolved in relation to the BP disaster. I know there are a lot of people in St. Bernard and Plaquemines who are still waiting on claims to be resolved. My presence on the committee will allow me to help.”

The GCCF Committee reviews issues related to the claim process that was set up to handle reimbursement for damages incurred during the BP oil disaster.  Committee activities include, but are not be limited to, reviewing problems relating to claims filed by both individuals and businesses, examination of the appeals process for denial of claims, overseeing the protection of our citizens, our businesses and our state, and taking action necessary to ensure a systematic and fair process for claims payments.

Representative Garofalo added he will be happy to speak with anyone who feels they are not receiving proper attention on their claim or issue before the GCCF by calling his District office in Chalmette at 504.278.6599 or emailing him at garofalor@legis.la.gov.
