Girl Scouts fun “Down in Da Parish”Jul 29th, 2013 | By admin | Category: News
This summer, the St. Bernard Girl Scouts of Service Unit 428, as well as girls from other units from around the metro area, got to enjoy a week of fun in the sun and indoor crafts at their “Down in Da Parish” day camp, held at First Baptist Church in Chalmette.
The girls, who ranged from first-to-eighth graders were excited that they had a chance to mingle with other Girl Scouts from around the area, and they certainly had plenty of fun activities to partake in including water activities, arts and crafts, games, and theme days.
All of the girls who attended had a blast making personalized perler bead crafts and participating in group games, but the most excitement came with the outdoor water activities which included a water slide and sprinklers.
“One of the great things about the Girl Scout program is that girls get a chance to come together and learn important values, while still having fun,” said one of the camp leaders. “Through group activities and talks, they learn skills that will help them in the future.”
“The Girl Scout program is a great learning experience,” said Camp Director,Tanya Palazzalo. “It teaches girls how to be independent and self-sufficient so they can be successful later on in life.”
