New local author Samantha Perez of Violet will present her first book, The Islenos of Louisiana: On the Water’s Edge, at the Los Islenos Fiesta March 19-20 at the Los Islenos Museum Complex. Based on a blend of academic research and interviews with living Islenos, the book traces the history, culture, and accomplishments of these little-known but influential people from their arrival to southeast Louisiana in the late 1700s, to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010. Perez will be available to sign copies of her new book at the festival.
