PLANETARIUM gets ready for liftoff

The sky will soon no longer be the limit in St. Bernard Parish. Construction of a new planetarium is scheduled to be completed in October, giving local students a chance to explore the cosmos and southern Louisiana’s ecology in a series of hands-on exhibits designed to enhance science education in St. Bernard. “Everything about this building is to promote the learning of science. Every place we could get it in,” said St. Bernard Parish School Board Construction Manager Albert Carey. The $19.7 million Maumus Center is being constructed at the former site of Maumus High School, which which took extensive damage during Hurricane Katrina.
