As one of the three components of the “holy trinity” used in many of Louisiana’s favorite foods, onions have earned a place in the vegetable garden. They are relatively easy to grow so long as the right types are planted at the right time. Onions (Allium cepa) are a family that includes the bulbing white, yellow, red, and purple onions, as well as scallions, locally known as green onions. Other members of the same genus include garlic, which is planted in October in our area, leeks, and shallots. Leeks and shallots can go in now also.

McInnis Speaks at December 5 Kiwanis Meeting

Parish President Guy McInnis was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club on December 5. McInnis spoke on the state of the parish and the many accomplishments over the past eight years.

St. Bernard Parish Public Schools Announce District-Wide Students of the Year

Three outstanding St. Bernard Parish students were recently named District-Wide Students of the Year. Raelynn Prestenbach, Kinlee Pohlmann, and Aniya Harris were the respective winners of the elementary, middle, and high school divi- sions. These students were chosen by a panel of judges of community leaders and educators. Nominees were scored based on formal assessments, a writing sample, a comprehensive portfolio, and an interview with the panelists.

St. Bernard Art Guild Announces Fall 2023 Show Winners

The St. Bernard Art Guild (SBAG) exhibited 122 works of fine art at its annual Fall Art Show in the Art Conscious Gallery in Arabi. SBAG commemorated its 55th year with a beautiful display of two-and three-dimensional works of creative art by local artists.

A major climate conference is being conducted in Dubai and all the proponents of eliminating fossil fuels are in attendance. Even the Mayor of New Orleans who has nothing to add but hot air has arrived. Likely, this is just another expensive junket for her on the taxpayer’s dollar. It just demonstrates the sickening political involvement on a topic that should be limited to scientists.
