Do you know where eggs come from? During AgMagic, Bill Haines of the Meraux Foundation would have given you a lesson about chickens and eggs. In today’s world, remember cell phones do not lay eggs or raise chickens for the dinner table. AgMagic gives regional youths the opportunity for some life science lessons. In the very busy world of this electronic era , the zoo may be the best chance for some children to see a live animal other than the traditional house pets. Connecting with nature is a significant and necessary component of youth education. With 18 educational stations at AgMagic, everything you could imagine about nature was well presented and, in some cases, literally hands on. There was a small alligator to pet, all kinds of plants to see, smell, and feel, and even microscopes to examine what is in natural outdoor water. It was a rare nature science experience many urbanized electronic erachildrenmayonlyreceive once a year at Docville Farm in Violet. This is what real life exposure is all about for the two thousand plus students and the over eight hundred family day attendants. A little highlight for residents of St. Bernard, the lucky residents also received one of 500 give away trees on family day.
