Rene Albert Bourquard Sr. passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the age of 82. He was the cherished husband of Shirley Chaisson Bourquard for 58 years. Loving son of the late Edward Charles Bourquard Sr. and Antoinette Campora Bourquard. Beloved father of Rene Albert Bourquard Jr. and Jeanne Bourquard Bodden Wood and their spouses, Connie Thompson Bourquard and Jess Owen Wood. Rene was an exceptional grandfather to Danielle Bourquard-Elsensohn (Nick), Samuel "Allen" Bodden Jr. (Meghan) and Amanda Bourquard. He truly adored his great-grandchildren Grace Caitlyn Elsensohn, Faith Renee Elsensohn and Sammi Alyse Bodden. Rene was brother and friend of the late Edward Albert Bourquard Sr., Richard "Buddy" Bourquard and Albert Bourquard. Rene is also survived by his sisters, Doris Bourquard Goodwin (Gerry), Emelda Bourquard Lodriguss and Myrtle Bourquard Barras (Ronnie) whom he loved dearly. Rene founded Modern Auto Wreckers Inc. 51 years ago. The business remained open in New Orleans, LA until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He reopened in 2009 with his son, daughter and grandson in Picayune, MS. He remained active in the business until his passing. Rene was an exceptional outdoorsman. He was passionate and adept at hunting, fishing and golf. Rene was former President of Pipeline Gun and Rod Club. He was also a member of Diamondhead Golf Club and was known as "Coach" by his golf buddies. When Rene was 19 years old he was inducted into the US Army. Although he was an excellent mechanic, they quickly promoted
him to a medic. He served in the Korean War and was on the front lines many times. He went from Buck Private to Staff Sergeant in two years. Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 26, 2014. A funeral mass followed.
