Grenes Joseph Meyaski

Grenes Joseph Meyaski was a man of many words and on a beautiful, sunny morning, May 26, 2014, he heard from God the most melodic words of all, "Welcome Home." At the age of 73, they talked of his childhood and the love of his life of 50 years, his children and grandkids, and the fun times he had in life. As the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meyaski, he continues to walk side-by-side with his family, beloved husband of Janet Meyer Meyaski, loving father and fatherin- law to Mary Cecile Meyaski-Schluter, Erin Meyaski, Grenes Meyaski ll, Stephanie Meyaski Valentino, John Schluter, Stacey Meyaski, and Dean Valentino. Throughout the days of his life, his grandchildren brought him the greatest joy, Stefan Schluter, Frank Plaia lV, Harrison Schluter, Caroline Schluter, Sofia Plaia, Annelise Meyaski, Abigail Meyaski, Grenes Meyaski lll, and Gabriella Valentino. A piece of him will live on in each of them. Resulting from his life experiences, Snooky was a walking internet, definitely before his time. As a young man, he turned an amateur doughnut route shared with his cousins into a successful sweet treat that was high in demand. He was also a professional barber and cut the hair of so many men, as well as their sons, and could still remember each of them by name. Branching beyond the barber shop walls, he was a pipefitter for Tenneco Oil Refinery for 15 years where he was the Union President voice for all. For those of you who knew Snooky, his voice was definitely heard. Later he retired and idle he couldn't be. Studying entomology, a licensed entomologist he became taking care of those pest problems across St. Bernard and the greater New Orleans area. Following Hurricane Katrina, he decided to hang up his cap, kick back, and relax. Just as he traveled with his children in his younger years, he continued to do so with his wife, children, grandkids, and extended family. From Alaska to Florida, the East Coast to the West, he camped, sailed, hiked, and toured the nation. His stories are vast and his wisdom lives on. The lives he touched are many, and he shared a special bond with each and every one. In his spare time, he took flying lessons and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved coaching the St. Bernard Flyers track team and cross country runners, proudly cheering on his team in three Junior Olympic Games. Respectfully and proudly, he served as Past Master of Hermitage Lodge #98 F&AM, and is the current Secretary. Masonic Hail to all Master Masons to attend the funeral services of Grenes Joseph Meyaski. Family and friends were invited to a Memorial Visitation at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, on Saturday, May 31, 2014. A Memorial Mass followed.
