Jane Hoppenjan Woolfley, formerly of Cassville, Wisc. passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA. Jane was born Dec. 20, 1930 and raised in southwestern Wisconsin, daughter of Leo and Elma (Budden) Hoppenjan. Jane worked and traveled widely within the United States before accepting assignment by the U.S. Department of State to the American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. There she met and subsequently married H.L. Dufour Woolfley of New Orleans, Louisiana, a career member of the United States Foreign Service. Over ensuing years, the couple served the United States in various diplomatic and consular posts abroad and in Washington D.C., before retiring to Cassville, Wisconsin in 1993. Jane lived a devout, enriching and expansive life, and imbued her four children with desire and capacity to do the same. Not long before her death, she and her husband celebrated fifty-one years of joyful marriage. Jane is survived by her husband, H. L.
Dufour Woolfley, of Cassville, Wisc.; her children, Mary Jane (John) Stowers, of San Antonio, Texas, H.L. Dufour (Karen) Woolfley Jr., of Bowie, Maryland, Bernard F. (Melinda) Woolfley, of Arlington, Virginia, and Paul F. Woolfley, of Jefferson, Wisconsin; her brother, William D. Hoppenjan, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Bernard L. Hoppenjan and her sister-in-law, Carol Hoppenjan. Mass of Christian Burial was on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Interment was in Metairie Cemetery.
