Louis Joseph “Lou” Becker Jr.

Louis Joseph “Lou” Becker Jr. said goodbye to his family and this world on the morning of January 23, 2014 at the age of 88. Louis Joseph “Lou” Becker Jr. quietly passed away after spending his final days in the loving presence of his family. He was born on July 10, 1925 in New Orleans, LA and was the son of his late mother Dora Fuchs and his late father Louis J. Becker Sr. along with his only sister, the late Zella Foster. Lou now gets to rejoin his late wife Elaine Smith Becker for the final chapter of their 60 years of marriage. His survivors include his three children: Louis J. Becker III, Mary Kay Potter and Jan Rodriguez. Grandpa Lou will also be missed by his 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren (especially around Christmas gumbo time). Lou always had a passion for life and especially food even if he liked to keep a stubborn facade as his sole privilege as his family’s head patriarch. A high school graduate of Holy Cross School, and a decorated veteran of the United States Army - Lou’s legacy extended to the produce markets where he followed the American dream and worked his way up from an employee at Cannizaro’s Food Brokerage to founding the Orleans Food Brokerage and the St. Bernard Parish Driving Range before retiring. Family and friends attended the funeral mass on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home in New Orleans, LA. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Villages of St. Peters in Missouri for their compassion and commitment. To view and sign the family guestbook, please visit www.schoencanalstreet.com
