Parish organizing task force of large boats
Jun 1st, 2010 | By Chad West | Category: News, Oil SpillSt. Bernard Parish officials are calling on St. Bernard Parish commercial fishermen who have a vessel that meets the following specifications: Large V-bottom boats capable of running outside of the Chandeleur Islands (20 miles into the Gulf from the Chandeleurs), with a minimum of 300 horsepower, steel or aluminum, keel cool preferred, minimum of 30 feet (crew boats okay). These vessels will be used as part of a skimming operation, and the vessel specified above will be used to collect the oil and transfer it to a barge. To clarify, this is being organized as a precautionary measure and should not be construed as an admission of oil in the area. If you would like to be involved in these BP Vessel of Opportunity Program operations and your vessel meets the criteria called for above, please email your vessel specifications including boat name and registration to John Rahaim at jrahaim@sbpg.net.
