The St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce met for a lunch and presentation from Robert Scafidel and Drew Heaphy from the Port, Harbor and Terminal District on Jan. 19. Scafidel said security is one of their biggest priorities, as the Mississippi River is one of the busiest shipping corridors in the world. Heaphy highlighted some of the port’s recent milestones, including reaching their highest amount of annual tonnages carried in 2010, about five million tons.
