Rupp initiates Peralta recall petition
Nov 23rd, 2012 | By Jessica Gonzalez | Category: NewsArabi resident Peter Rupp filed recall petition paperwork with the Louisiana Secretary of State on November 19, in hopes of ousting Parish President Dave Peralta from office.
Of the 25,702 registered voters in St. Bernard Parish, Rupp has 180 days to get signatures from 33.3 percent, or 8,567 voters, in order for the recall to be filed.
Rupp, who is suing Peralta and the council over the council’s $32 fire protection charge added to
water bills, says he is confident there is enough opposition against Peralta throughout the parish
that the petition will go through.
Rupp claims that he has some signatories already, but declined to provide a total number or any
names at this time, as he did not want to deter people from signing.
The Secretary of State says that once the first signature is obtained, the recall petition becomes
public record.
“People are fed up; I know he inherited this budget problem but this is about options: he had them at every turn and he didn’t take them,” Rupp said. “Instead he had opted for fiscal mismanagement of funds and
irresponsible firing.”
Parish President Dave Peralta, who took office in January of 2012, declined comment on the matter.
