Seeber Bridge Update

Mar 10th, 2010 | By | Category: News

Vehicular and first of two (5 day) marine traffic closures of the Seeber Bridge on Claiborne Avenue will begin 12:01 am on March 15.

DOTD suggests using LA 47/I-510 to I-10 if more convenient, other detour routes are LA 46 (St. Claude) and Florida Ave. Ending dates are not secured. Updates will be sent out as they become available

Vehicular Closure:

There will be a total closure (24 hours daily) of the bridge from March 15 – May 13. The beginning date may vary by a day or two since we are co-coordinating with U.S.C.G. and marine traffic. Closure updates will be sent out as mid March approaches (this will include beginning and ending hours). Work being performed will consist of changing of wire ropes, electrical rehabilitation, mechanical rehabilitation, Deck replacement and structural repairs.

Possible Detours:

Paris road to I-510 / I-10

St Claude Ave. “draw” Bridge (official detour to which traffic will be diverted)

Florida Ave. “draw” Bridge (local traffic only)

The St. Claude Ave. and Florida Ave. bridges are draw bridges and are required to open for marine traffic. These bridges are owned and operated by the Port of New Orleans.

Marine Closure:

There will be two 5 day closures between March 15 and April 2.

To further explain:

There will be one 5-consecutive-day (24 hour) closure beginning on the March 15. This date may vary by a day or so depending on the U.S.C.G.’s evaluation of shipping schedules. Updates will be sent out as mid March approaches.

Following the first 5 day closure, a 2-7 day window will be allowed to clear congested marine traffic and to allow the flexibility to line up with shipping schedules, as to cause the least amount of disruption to marine traffic. The U.S.C.G. will determine the appropriate length of this window. Again updates will be sent out as mid March approaches.

The second 5 consecutive day closure will begin immediately following the 2-7 day window mentioned above.

Work being performed will consist of changing of wire ropes.
