On August 29, 2005, St. Bernard was struck with a _erce blow to its community. It was Hurricane Katrina that drown a whole community and leaving death and destruction behind. It was not a pretty sight with black smelly mud, cars on roof tops, piles of rubbish, marsh grass, and slabs where whole homes once existed. What was destruction became strength. For those who decided to come back a surge of adrenaline in massive doses took place. _e very old, the young , and many volunteers accomplished herculean results cleaning up and rebuilding St. Bernard. Life has challenges and strength is within everyone’s reach to accomplish. Katrina would have defeated all if the victims if the destruction would have been convinced, they had no power to move ahead. Simply put convince people they have no strength, then the adversity will take over and win. _is may sound a little like David and Goliath, a big enemy visually outsizes the smaller victim. A stealth plan did use the strength of a few along with multitudes of individuals to out weight the mighty forces of one of the biggest hurricanes to hit St. Bernard. No matter what a challenge against a community like a major _ooding storm may be, it takes a holistic team eort to get at the roots of self-destiny to rebuild. St. Bernard has a future it must guard from storms, crime, pollution, and outsides in_uences that threaten its quality of life. In 2020, the COVID-19 shutdown was a prime example, it was as if the whole deck of cards was reshu_ed every other day with a dierent poker game called each time.
